Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai formerly known as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) was established on October 1, 1933, with the intension of providing technical knowledge in Chemical Science and Technology. The Institute has become a premier (Deemed) University dedicated to research and training in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Applied Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, and Bio-processing. ICT is considered the best college for Chemical Engineering in Mumbai as well as in India. The college campus is spread over an area of 16 acres. In 2018, ICT opened two more campuses one in Jalna, Maharashtra, and other in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Chemical Technology Management
In November 2017, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Committee graded ICT with A++ CGPA of 3.77 out of 4. ICT in Mumbai has been ranked amongst the top fifteen Engineering Institutes of India and 19th amongst the top universities of the country. It ranked 4 amongst the Pharmacy Institutes. In the BRICS QS Universities ranking 2018, ICT ranked at 118; whereas, in 2019, ICT is 115 among all BRICS.
HOW TO JOIN ICT MUMBAI
Students can take admission through 2 Channels:
- JEE Main Channel: Candidate who has secured a good rank in JEE Main exam is eligible to apply for counseling and to secure seat students must meet the minimum cut off criteria.
- MHT CET Channel: Students with excellent marks in MHT CET exam will be eligible to attend MHT CET counseling procedure. Cut-offs are generally announced in 4 rounds.
NOTE: Minimum of 50% marks are required in 10+2 to get admission for GEN candidate and for category students 45% marks is mandatory. Percentage reduction is valid for residents of Maharashtra only.
For B.CHEM. ENGG. AND B.Tech.
70 % seats are reserved for Students of the State of Maharashtra and 30% for All India (all States and Union Territories including Maharashtra)
For B. Pharm.
100% seats are reserved for the State of Maharashtra.
PG Students are shortlisted based on the GATE/GPAT score along with the written exam of the Institute or on merit list issued by the Institute.
Ph.D. candidates are shortlisted based on written round and personal interview taken by the ICT.
MHT CET PATTERN
- The exam will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT) conducted online.
- Either student can choose PCM or PCB.
- The duration of the exam is 3 hours.
- Physics and Chemistry paper is of 90 minutes and Maths/Biology Paper is of 90 minutes.
- The format of the questions paper is shown in the image below.

There are a total of 150 Multiple Choice Questions(MCQ) with 4 options out of which one is correct. There are 50 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology. For each correct answer in Physics and Chemistry, +1 mark is awarded and Maths/Biology +2 mark is awarded. There is no negative marking. Zero mark is awarded for not answering the question. The maximum marks for the exam are 200.

OTHER FACILITIES AT ICT
ICT Mumbai library contains more than 75000 books and journals to support the academics. Engineering is incomplete without hostel life. It has two separate hostels for boys and 2 for girls. Mess facility is also provided in the hostel. The guest room facility is available for parents of students at affordable rates. It is equipped with all the facilities.
LIFE AT ICT:
ICT conducts various fests and events to engage students in different kinds of activities apart from academics. These fests are organized by students which helps them having experience in managing such huge events.
The annual inter-college cultural festival, Manzar has a plethora of programs, specifically concerts and workshops that serve to enrich the cultural aspect of the institute. The is an intra-institute college fest called ‘FunTech’ which involves various cultural and sports events for the college students. Sport Saga is the annual inter-college sports festival where students of various colleges in and around Mumbai participate. There is an entrepreneurship cell(E-Cell) in the college to enhance the entrepreneurial culture of the college.
Graduates from this institute are considered best in the chemical industry and their salaries rank among the highest in the country, even surpassing the salaries of graduates of the premier branded institutes. Salaries of the placed students range from Rs. 3.50 to Rs 14.00 lakhs per annum.
With regard to post-graduate research opportunities, a good number of students are offered admission by some of the world’s best universities to pursue further studies.

All 3rd year UG students of B. Chem. Engg., B.Tech. and B. Pharma undergo 6 weeks in-plant industrial training in various industries. In the academic year 2018-2019, they were placed in about 120 different industries.
All masters students of MTech., M.E., and M.Sc. (Science) undergo an Industrial internship from two-six months. In the academic year 2019-20, master’s students were placed in about 100 different industries for industrial internship program.

UDCT has given many great personalities, entrepreneurs to the nation. Two ICT engineers Raghunath Mashelkar and Man Mohan Sharma have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society(FRS) -they are the only Indians to achieve this feat.

HOW TO REACH ICT
Landmarks in the vicinity of ICT
VJTI (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute) (Backside), Khalsa College, Don Bosco School, and Church are well-known landmarks adjacent to the ICT on the Nathalal Parekh Marg. The ICT campus is one of the most picturesque and quiet places.
- From Matunga Railway Station (Central Railway-Main Line)
The ICT can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot following L. Nappu Road, Bhandarkar Road, Maheshwari Udyan (King’s circle), Don Bosco Church/ High School/ Khalsa College.
- From Wadala Railway Station (Harbour Line of Central Railway)
It is about 12 minutes walk. Exit on the western gate on the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road; walk straight on D.S.Barato Road in front of the station to Wadala Church and turn right on Nathalal Parekh Road (backside of VJTI). It will take about 5 minutes to reach the ICT.
- From King’s Circle Railway Station (Harbour Line of Central Railway)
Get down on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and walk southward towards Arora Cinema and then along Nathalal Parekh Road towards Don Bosco Church/ High School and ICT. It is about 10 minutes walk.
- From Dadar Railway Station (Central Railway)
Walk towards Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road via Pritam Hotel. Take BEST Bus No.64 to Maheshwari Udyan (King’s circle) and get down at the ICT / Don Bosco Church/ High School bus stop exactly opposite to ICT’s main gate.
- From Dadar Railway Station (Western Railway)
Exit on the western gate to Senapati Bapat Marg and walk on Ranade Road and N.C. Kelkar Road to Plaza Cinema. Board on Bus No. 169 towards Pratiksha Nagar and alight at the ICT / Don Bosco Church/ High School bus stop exactly opposite to ICT’s main gate. You can also get on to Bus No. 63 to Chunabhatti and get down at the Bus stop called Gate No 4. Walk along the R.A. Kidwai Marg and enter through the rear gate for the ICT hostels.
- From Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST): Main Central Railway Station
Board a Harbour train to Wadala station and follow route B. Else board a Main-line train to Matunga Central Station and follow route A.
- From Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Railway Station
Board a Harbour train to Wadala station and follow route B. Else board the Main-line train to Matunga Central Station and follow route A.
- From Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Sahar and Domestic Terminal, Santacruz (East)
Rent either a pre-paid taxi Uber or Ola or hire a taxi for Maheshwari Udyan (King’s Circle), Don Bosco Church/ High School, and ICT. The maximum fare for a regular taxi should be around Rs. 300, without any traffic jams. It takes about 30-40 minutes.
